Last summer I had the opportunity to complete my PJ-Tertial in Neurology at Neurozentrum Feldafing. This was broken down into 8 weeks in the neurological rehab clinic in Feldafing and then 8 weeks in the acute neurology in Tutzing.
At that time I was the only PJ Student which was really fantastic because I was able to take over my own patients and work more or less as a resident. The attendings and residents were always willing to take time to answer any and all of my questions and to step-in in the event I was over my head. Out of all of my rotations in PJ this was hands-down the best because it properly prepared me for my first year of residency. The teaching aspect was also very beneficial in prepping for my board exams. The attending that runs the teaching, also happens to sit at and on the board exams at TUM. In the weekly teaching we reviewed a few cases and then were questioned like in the exam. It could not have been better prep. In fact a few of the cases, almost word for word, were again presented in my board exam.
I happened to like it so much that I started work in here in March 2019. In fact 50% of the PJ Student end up beginning in Feldafing/Tutzing which speaks to the quality. I was uncertain in the beginning exactly what I wanted to do, and after working with the Teams in both houses, it was a clear and easy decision to make.
What I liked the best at the hospitals was, you really work as a team with the therapists, nurses, residents and attendings. It was exactly how I imagined a rehab clinic and an acute hospital working together.
Of course the 600€ that you receive really help offset the costs of driving or taking the train daily.
Study-days we did not have off, but it was always possible to find time during the day to read a bit and prepare.
Also every single day, I left on time and had the opportunity to take a lunch break.
